5 CV Mistakes That Keep You Out of the VIP Cabin
Applying for a role in private aviation is very different from applying to a commercial airline. Flight departments and principals are not only hiring a skill set — they are choosing the person who will look after them, their family and their guests on board. Your CV is the very first impression of your service standards.

Over the years I have reviewed many CVs from talented crew who were overlooked for one simple reason: their CV did not show who they really are. Here are the five mistakes I see most often — and how to fix them.
MISTAKE 01
Sending a commercial airline CV
A CV built for a commercial airline focuses on large-scale service, routes and aircraft types. A private jet role needs more: personalised service, attention to detail, discretion and the ability to work independently. Tailor every CV to private and corporate aviation and highlight experience in luxury hotels, yachts, fine dining or private households.
MISTAKE 02
Listing duties instead of results
“Served food and beverages” tells a recruiter very little. Instead, show the level you worked at: tailored menus for VIP guests, wine and table service, managing catering for long-range flights, or creating a special occasion on board. Specific details show experience.
MISTAKE 03
An unprofessional photo
In this industry, your photo matters. Choose a recent, natural and polished headshot: neat hair, elegant makeup, neutral clothing and a plain background. Avoid selfies, filters, holiday photos or heavily edited images.

MISTAKE 04
Too long, too busy, too hard to read
Recruiters often scan a CV in seconds. Keep yours to one or two pages, with clear headings, consistent spacing and your most relevant experience and certificates near the top. Clean and elegant always wins over colourful and crowded.

MISTAKE 05
Forgetting the details that make you unique
Languages, silver service or butler training, wine knowledge, floristry, event styling, childcare experience — these extras are exactly what set VIP FAs apart. Do not hide them at the bottom of the page or leave them out entirely.
Discretion is not a skill you list — it is one your CV quietly demonstrates.
